The album of the year rightfully belongs to Spoon, not only for their triumphant return to the throne of indie-rock, but by creating an album that combines so many of their familiar characteristics while also forging a distinct development in sound. It’s been four years since Transference, which I consider my least favorite Spoon release, and in that time the band had moved from Merge Records to newly launched Loma Vista recordings.
Not only did Spoon perfectly capture the second half of 2014 with They Want My Soul, but the band has been almost everywhere this year, playing almost every big name festival you can imagine.
